Our Seniors are on Panaroma!

Hello Apollo!!

2012 has begun, to the C2 students, we hope this year will be extremely fruitful for all of you and may we all do very well for the impending A level Exams!

In the mean time, we would like to share a piece of good news with all of you. In the September-December Issue of Panaroma, our Apollo seniors Metta Sari (from 10S7P), Amanda Lee (10S7G), Petrina Ng (10S7E), Nitcharee Nitinavakorn (10S7E) and Ares senior Petrina Ng (10S70), were featured in a full page article regarding their SL Project which I'm sure all of us have heard of -- One Day Without Shoes!

One of the most prominent SL groups in our school last year, One Day Without Shoes sold shirts which allowed students to walk around school shoeless, and all proceeds from the sale of the shirts when to World Vision Singapore.

Faculty Breakfast!!

Now that SEA-riously Apollo is over, let us recap the events that we had over the past few months, to spice up your after-promos life!

First off, we had FACULTY BREAKFAST! :D
here's the team behind all the LAME PUNS you've been experiencing~

On 14th October, Apollo had its very own CEREAL THEMED breakfast party~
everyone entered the left wings hungry and excited, and were served breakfast by our pretty waitresses ;)

After which, the programs began! First up, we had MUSICAL CHAIRS, which had contestants grooving to the beat, while trying not to lose their seats! We had burning souls determined not to lose, doing everything they can to get a seat :)

After intense rounds of fun, laughter and butting each other off the chair, it all came down to a SHOWDOWN between Kayhian (EVERYONE'S FAVOURITE BANANA KING from 11A14) and (from 11S71!)

Next up, we had everyone's favourite LIMBO, which showed a flexible side of the contestants :D

Every contestant gave it their best, bending their backs, but there could only be 1 WINNING CLASS! And that was LOUIS AND WEIQING from 11S7N!

All in all, the most important thing is, Fac Comm 11/12 wishes that ALL apollo-nians had fun at the Faculty Breakfast! Even though it was only 1 hour, we hope that everyone enjoyed the games and programs that the Fac Comm has planned (:

HI APOLLO

FACULTY OUTING IS IN 3 DAYS!!! ARE YOU SEA-RIOUSLY EXCITED???

CHECK OUT A PHOTO OF RIVERBOAT :D

We're gonna be floating around!! But first, details on how to get there, unless you plan to swim! :D There are two ways you can go:

1. Chartered buses!

There will be chartered buses from Tanjong Pagar MRT Station straight to the boat. The pick-up point is at Choon Guan Street, behind the CPA International Building (which is just next to the MRT station!). Here's a map:

Look out for the street that looks like that!

Bus trips will begin from 5.00 pm, and the buses will leave once they're filled. Try to be early so you can get to FO early and watch the performances!

Departure times: 5.00 pm, 5.20 pm, 5.40 pm, 6.00 pm, 6.20 pm

There will also be buses chartered from Riverboat back to this pick-up point at the end of FO.

Departure times: 9.10 pm, 9.30 pm

2. By yourself!

There are only two buses that go to Marina South Pier, 400 and 402. You can take these buses from either Tanjong Pagar MRT Station or Marina Bay MRT Station.

For Tanjong Pagar MRT:

Walk to the bus stop at Hub Synergy Point, Anson Road and take 400, 402.

For Marina Bay MRT:

Walk to the bus stop across from the MRT Station and take 400, 402.

Alight at Marina City Park, Marina Boulevard and walk to Marina South Pier.

Riverboat is docked at MSP. Look around for the boat at the long pier!

Getting there may seem a little tricky but it's quite simple! Call your CT Rep if you get lost and we will try our best to provide directions.

AAAAND NOW... WHAT TO WEAR!

For girls:

Use these for inspiration! Leggings are advised if you're wearing a short skirt, and try not to wear heels because the staircases are pretty steep!

Fac Outing is going to be SEA-riously fun

HELLO APOLLO!

Recently, many rumours about the fac outing venue have been floating around. The purported venues ranged from a yacht, to the Marina Bay floating platform, to the respective houses of our beloved fac heads.

Sadly, none of these very creative rumours were true! (Perhaps next year?) Today, details of our second fac outing were finally released. You could go out into the Central Plaza to look at our AWESOME banner (props to Vic!), but in case you're lazy and glued to your laptop screen (for OP, of course) here they are:

Date & Time 15 November 2011, 5.30pm

Venue Stewords Riverboat, Marina South Pier

Price $17 for Apollo kids, $20 for everyone else

We hope you're excited, because we are! Please submit your ticket orders to your CT Rep ASAP, and make payment by 4 November (that's tomorrow!) 4pm latest.

You will also need to submit your classmate nominations for the following games: Laughing Maniac, Scavenger Hunt, Banana King (we'll need a boy AND a girl) and Epicmealtime (fans should definitely volunteer! :D) Please pick your candidates wisely so as to maximise your chances of winning! There are fantastic prizes to be won.

HELLO APOLLO! :D

As promised, the results for the various events are out! :D However, do wait patiently for the overall position of Apollo this Friday! (:

THANK YOU APOLLO! We’ve finally come to the end of our FOS. We would not have been able to do so without the help of all of you, especially the captains that helped with the coordination work!

BASKETBALL BOYS: 4^th

Regardless of team 1 or team 2, the boys played really hard and contended for the semi-finals! We are very amazed at your strength and perseverance despite facing powerhouses from the other faculties!

Special Mention goes to Wilfred Tan of S7J!

Wilfred had cramps halfway during the match but he recovered from the timeout session of 1 minute and continued showing the true Apollo spirit! We are very proud of his determination and indeed, Wilfred deserves the title of the Most Valuable Player (MVP)!

BASKETBALL GIRLS: 3^rd

The girls from both teams fought equally hard as team 2 battled their way through to the semi finals before clinching the 3^rd place! It was an exciting match for many people and we hope the experience was fun for all of you too!

FLIPPABALL BOYS: 2^nd

With Tai Joum (Captain) leading the flippaball team, they played good matches with all other faculties and narrowly lost to Athena by 1 point! Well done, boys!:D

FLIPPABALL GIRLS: 1^st

Other faculties commented on our exceptionally strong team and true enough, these girls have displayed wondrous skills and won all other faculties! Even though we have an edge in terms of our strength, the teamwork is commendable!

FLOORBALL GUYS: 2^nd

With only 6 players with only 1 substitute available, the guys fought really hard and even though they were very tired, they didn’t stop showing the determination of putting the ball into the goal. In the end, when faced with the strongest competitor Athena, only 5 players were left as 1 player was injured. However, the guys fought hard and lost narrowly to Athena. Well done, guys!

FLOORBALL GIRLS: 1^st

The girls did their best too as they competed against other faculties. Like the boys, with only 6 players, the hard work of each player is commendable and the teamwork was the crux to Apollo’s win. Well done, girls!

NETBALL BOYS: 3^rd

Even though the boys faced powerhouses from other faculties, they fought for every ball and did the best that they could! We are very heartened at their continuous attempts despite facing high difficulty from their tough opponents! Good job!

NETBALL GIRLS: 3^rd

With less than 1 hour of knowing each other, the netball girls communicated and cooperated with each other efficiently. Despite having no shooters (which is essential to a netball team), the girls played their best and emerged 3^rd!

SOCCER BOYS: 3^rd, 4^th

With team 1 led by Zhonghao and team 2 led by Zhihao, the guys displayed impressive skills as they competed against other faculties. With both teams getting into semifinals, it was a joyous occasion that was celebrated by most in Apollo! Well done, guys!

SOCCER GIRLS:

The girls faced strong powerhouses from other faculties. The girls played well and had lots of fun! Team spirit was good and the girls didn’t give up against their strong competitors. The girls also displayed good sportsmanship and good job girls! We know you have done Apollo proud!

TABLETENNIS MIXED: 3^rd

With the tabletennis team led by Kylie, we had exciting matches played against other faculties with the 2 doubles (boys), 2 doubles (girls), and 1 doubles (mixed). Apollo had no school team tabletennis player but they gave their all and played hard against their competitors! Good job, girls and boys!

VOLLEYBALL MIXED: 1^st, 3rd

While Apollo had many players who’s adept at playing volleyball, the quick chemistry and teamwork amongst team 1 and team 2 was amazing! Teamwork is especially essential in Volleyball. Both teams displayed good teamwork with each other and played their best (with a player diving to the ground even though he had no kneepads on) Well done! Girls and boys!

ULTIMATE FRISBEE: 3^rd

With the team led by Hong You, most of the 14 of them only knew each other then! Recognising each other strengths and weaknesses, the Frisbee team was not deterred by the strong competitors, particularly from Athena, and fought very hard. The players all showed good sportsmanship by respecting their opponent’s calls. Well done boys and girls!

ONCE AGAIN, WE WOULD LIKE TO THANK ALL OF YOU WHO HAVE MADE THIS EVENT POSSIBLE! we look forward to many more school events, including the upcoming Faculty Breakfast this friday!

Bullboys in the News

While we've been mugging our socks off for the upcoming prelims and promos, APOLLO'S very own brand of bullboys and bullgirls have been featured on the papers for multiple times this term! Our seniors have by no doubt set us high standards to challenge ourselves with!

Let's have a brief recap..

First up, Hwa Chong had always boasted a tradition of producing SAFOS awardees, but this year, we're really proud to announce that both of Hwa Chong's awardees are from APOLLO, and they are none other than Koh Zhan Wei Aaron and Tan E-An Zech from 09A14. Both of them were exemplary trailblazers in several aspects of school life, apart from looking extremely awesome on the papers.

Congratulations to Aaron and Zech! We're proud of you!

But that's not all! A few days later we received further news! This time, Aaron's handsome face was published all over different forms of media, this time, as Hwa Chong's 51st President's Scholar! At this point in time, we're sure you've heard of his story, and here's what our very own senior has to say to us, in an exclusive mini-interview just for Apollo from the man himself:

Dear Juniors,

It was just a year ago when I was in the exact same position as all of you are. Studying for Prelims was a nightmare in itself; not to mention the constant worries of the impending A Levels as well as applications for university places and scholarships. It seemed like an arduous journey that would never end. The countless hours (and nights even) studying in the consult area, library, left and right wings were mentally tiring and consuming. I guess what's running through your minds are questions like "what if I don't do well for As" or "can I do well enough to achieve what I want".

If what I've just described resonates deeply within you, don't worry- because you're not alone. Many seniors before you have been there, experienced the same worries, and eventually excelled through hard work. Most importantly, you have one another- your comrades in arms in this battle of a lifetime. Give each other the moral support you all need. Talk to each other about your worries. Study together. Help one another.

'Hard work pays off' is a commonplace advice dispensed freely by our parents, teachers, mentors. Yet, there was a time I thought my faith in it was decimated. I did not do as well as I had expected for my A levels. It was a devastating blow because I had put in an incredible amount of effort over the many years of my education in Hwachong. At the point in time of the release of my results, I knew I didn't make the offers from my UK universities and the US university results weren't out as well. My scholarship offer was being reviewed. I was in Basic Military Training, stuck on Tekong without any ability to control my fate. It was perhaps one of the lowest points in my life.

Yet, within the short span of a couple of months, my fortunes turned around. I managed to get into Penn (which I am thoroughly enjoying now) and retain my scholarship. In retrospect, I guess the hard work over the years gave me a track record that redeemed me. Also, my performance in the military and my internship at Ministry of Trade and Industry and the Singapore Police Force were extenuating factors.

In essence, even if you're feeling like you're at an all-time low from the insane amount of mugging, know that your life will definitely be better after As. Feel the pressure that you're facing, and relish it by turning stress into a motivating force. Don't ever give up when the going gets tough or when things don't go your way. Do your best in As, for that's what counts most. If you've always been doing badly or mediocrely, it doesn't mean that will or should continue. Step up the pace. If you've always been doing well, know that falling is still possible. Apollo Faculty Committee 2011-2012

Faculty CIP @ APEX

Hello Bullboys and Bullgirls!

A little around one month ago, we marked the end of our Apollo Faculty CIP at Apex Day Rehabilitation Centre @ Bukit Merah. And we were indeed true yellow Apollo-ians by radiating sunshine for everybody at the centre!

From 9am to 2pm on 3^rd June, we made the connection with around 30 seniors and spent the time with lots of fun and laughter!

Starting everything off with some class performances, it was indeed heartening to hear all the classes sing oldies and join in a few lines such as the chorus of “月亮代表我的心”, as well as enthusiastically clapping along!

After a scrumptious lunch, a few of us were paired up with a senior “buddy” and played BINGO! Over at the centre, the seniors actually play Bingo quite often with their own Bingo sets. But on that day, our company during the entire game made it a slightly different experience for the seniors.

And like how all of us know how AWESOME and HYPED UP Apollo can be, we brought some BOOM BOOM SHAKE SHAKE to Apex and also danced with the seniors!

And guess what, the seniors didn’t go easy on us when they tried to knock us out during Poisonball!

To end off all the fun, we played a more relaxing game of Pass the Parcel, where we learnt more about the seniors when they talked about something interesting, and impressed us when they could count from 1 to 10 in four languages!

Also, the money raised from the newspaper collection during the first part of the Faculty goes towards the food distribution programme for APEX centre.

Hello Apollo!

The June holidays are here, and Faculty CIP Part 2 is just around the corner!

Here are some details for those going for the CIP :)

Held on 3^rd June, from 9am to 2pm, the CIP would be at Apex Day Rehabilitation Centre @ Bukit Merah, which caters to frail and disabled elderly who require caretakers, and do refer to http://www.apexrehab.org.sg/ if you’d like more information :)

On that day, Apollo volunteers would be doing class/group performances, and participate in games such as “Pass the Parcel”, “Bingo”, as well as have conversations and provide company for the elderly!

For the class/group performances, the rehearsals would be held on 30^th May and 2^nd June, at the Banner Painting Area.

30^th May Rehearsal:

Do try to make it for the rehearsals, because we really need the rehearsals to pull off a stunning performance :)

Wondering what to wear?

Well, it IS at the Arena with numerous showdowns between the various Faculty Prince and Princesses, Banana Kings and Fear Factor Gladiator....

So the dress code is... GLADIATOR!

To help you guys along, you know, get the ball rollin', we took on the arduous task of Googling 'gladiator outfit' for you guys :)

We found this website, which looked promising until we pressed 'Play' and wasted a good 15 minutes of our lives dressing a gladiator.

For GIRLS:

The warrior style is really hot and in and glamazon and all, but frankly we really don't suggest this. It might get a tad cold in the Arena.

Instead, whip out your best gladiator sandals/ heels, killer stilettos and Grecian togas! Think 'Bronze Goddess' and gold, lots and lots of gold!

For GUYS:

We think this is just fine. Very manly.

But if you can't stand the audi aircon in Hwa Chong uniform, then perhaps something warmer?

Just kidding, guys! We welcome creative dressers though :)

Alright, so hope you will have a better idea of what segment of the closet you will dig in for Faculty Outing! Remember, dress to kill ^^

Tickets are already SOLD OUT but if some of your less fortunate friends who didn't make the ticketing in time would still like to purchase a ticket, please inform your senior CT rep so that if anyone frees up a ticket, we can sell it to you guys!

As per yesterday’s announcement before Faculty Head elections, the second optional part of Apollo Faculty CIP is on 3^rd June, 10am to 2pm. Our beneficiary is Apex Day Rehabilitation Centre for Elderly, a non-profit day care cum rehabilitation centre for elderly stroke patients. On that day, you will get to accompany and interact with the patients there, as they participate in various games and mini-activities!

For those running to be new Apollo’s Dance ICs and Pub I/Cs, please take note of the following requirement:

1. Publicity I/Cs

Task: Design a faculty related item. In addition, you MUST bring along your previous publicity works and designs to showcase during the interview. You can bring your own laptop (i.e. to show websites you have designed). Otherwise, hardcopies of your work are necessary.

2. Dance I/Cs

Task: Choreograph a 1-minute long dance item which will be showcased during the interview

Due to the upcoming General Elections, we have a very short timeframe to interview all students. Please strictly adhere to your interview timeslots. First of all, we will like to apologize to you because this year’s Combined Sports Meet (CSM) is not going to be interesting: Apollo is going to dominate the track and field events once again. We understand how banal things have become, which is why, we are now given the glorious opportunity of establishing ourselves as the traditional powerhouse of CSM in the…(wait for it)…SWIMMING POOL.

Start relishing the prospect of running, jumping, throwing and swimming, against the likes of Athena, Artemis, and Ares. We will need every single one of you to participate in CSM. Unfortunately, each participant can compete in only ONE individual event (eg 100m and 200m). However, you may sign up for as MANY relays (actually there are only two relays on the track and one relay in the pool) as you desire.

The rule you have to take note is that you can choose to EITHER run for Apollo in the track and field events OR you can swim for Apollo. The first keyword is EITHER. The second keyword is OR. For example, if you choose to participate in the swimming relay, you must not sign up in any of the track events. And vice versa. As much as you will love to display your athletic ability both on land and in water, you must resist the temptation

The main point is, WE WANT YOU regardless of how fast you can swim/run, how far you can throw or how high you can jump. If you participate (meaning you sign up with us and you turn up for the event), ONE POINT FOR APOLLO, regardless of the position you attain at the finishing line. Every point counts. Your participation could be all that stands between us and victory.

However, that being said, you MUST TURN UP for the event that you have signed up for unless you have appropriate reasons such as competitions and MC, failure to turn up at your events will cost Apollo a bomb of one participation point. Hence, please ensure that you are able to turn up for the events you have signed up for. We cannot stress how important that one point is. Besides, why give up the chance of winning?

APOLLO HAS RAISED $2227.20 FROM THE NEWSPAPER COLLECTION LAST SATURDAY!

This is the highest sum we have raised in all three years we have done door-to-door collection for Faculty CIP! This was really the effort of each and every one of you, we could see that everyone put in their best in collecting as much materials from the residents ^^ Thank you so much for doing your part for the less fortunate! We hope everyone enjoyed themselves taking part in this Apollo activity!

We would like to thank, first of all, all of you Faculty CIP participants for making this whole event possible – in particular, our dear CIP reps for acting as the administrative link and avenue of communication between us and your respective classes, our fellow Faculty Committee members in providing the support we needed to successfully implement our plans, our Faculty teachers in giving us invaluable guidance over the course of the whole organizing process to ensure things went so well, SembCorp Tay Paper Recycling Pte Ltd for working with us in this collection event, and last but not least, anyone who helped us in one way or another

- But there is a non-emergency matter, ring up the fac comm member allocated to your area first, not the Faculty teachers

Hi Apollo!

Here are some of the details regarding Faculty CIP this year in case you were
absent from the C1 briefings so far, or if you are a senior who is interested in
participating. We will be heading to the residential areas around Sengkang to
collect newspapers on 9th April, Saturday. It will be a half-day event from 8am
to 2pm. One-way transport to Sengkang will be provided, as well as lunch.
More details would be provided at a later briefing so not to worry!

By now, all the J1s should have an indemnity form with you. We would
appreciate it if you could get it signed by your parents and handed up to your CIP
reps punctually on 28thMarch, Monday. Do note that Faculty CIP is compulsory
for all C1 Apollo students! If you have CCA competition on that day, kindly get
your CCA teacher-in-charge to email Mr Khairul at khairulzad@hci.edu.sg to
inform him.

and for YOU to elect the very people who will be your voice and serve Hwa Chong as the 38th Student Council.

Here are some details for those slightly confused about what elections will be all about:

Campaign period will begin on the 28th of March and conclude on the 4th of April with the Introduction of Nominees. Voting will commence on the 5th of April, afterQuestion & Answer Session.

The best part?

LOTS AND LOTS OF CANDY ^^v

Do give your fullest support to all your friends, classmates, faculty mates running (that's all of them), because it's certainly not a walk in the park. Ha :)

Voting for Be38 will take place during school hours on the 5th whoopee and will be held by faculty in each faculty's respective location. Everyone in the faculty (both J1s and J2s) will have only 10 votes each but ultimately, more than 10 nominees from each faculty will be elected. Results will be released latest by 5.00 PM on the same day via the PA system :)

Faculty Head Elections will be on the 29 of April, during the CT Session. Again, it will be held by faculty and everyone will have only 2 votes each. Results of the new Faculty Head and Deputy Faculty Head will be released latest by 5.00 PM on the same day via the PA system.

The procedure for Faculty Committee Selection is:

1) Nomination by Civics Tutor and Civics Group (Class)

2) Submission of Sign-up Forms

3) Interviews by Fac Heads and Senior Faccomm

4) Results

Deadlines for Nominations and giving out of Sign-up Forms will be updated via your CTs and the Faculty Blog (so watch this space :D). Interviews will commence only after the Faculty Head Elections, with the exact timings to be confirmed at a later date.

A SMASHING GOOD PLAY -- Dramafeste '11, Smashed

Hey there Apollo (:

Last Thursday and Friday were two exceptionally special days -- not because they were the lead-up to the weekend, but because they were the days of DRAMAFESTE~

This year, we have won Best Script and Best Actress (which goes to Janne Hu as Keli)! Athena has taken Best Play, and congratulations to them.

Last month, when we concluded our Dramafeste Auditions, the ICs were all utterly amazed by the sheer amount of talent that came down to B101 to spend those precious afternoons with us. You wowed us with your expression, emotion and passion for both theatre and Apollo; and we are proud to say that we met many actors & actresses with immense potential, promise, and outright awesomeness.

It was only after much deliberation and discussion that we managed to pick our five cast members -- Toh Hui Ran (11A15) as Emily, Andre Lee (11S7N) as Qing Fan, Nico Teo (11A15) as Claudia, Janne Hu (11A14) as Keli and Charis Tan (11A15) as Mrs. Chan. Over the course of the two short weeks before Dramafeste, they have laboured and rehearsed and bore the brunt of our yelling, stayed back till as late as 10pm listening faithfully to our every direction, been forced to keep in character for hours on end or made to repeat a scene over and over and over again, and all in all worked their absolute hardest to put on a perfect show for all of you for Dramafeste itself.

However, the show would not have been possible without the help of our ever ninja-like crew, who never failed to be swift, stealthy and slick throughout the entire play. They were the ones who carried the props up and down and everywhere, who set each scene, and who silently supported the play from their places.

When we started work on Dramafeste, we had only one goal: to win. As with every other interfaculty competition, we were aiming for the Grand Prize, and for a while, nothing else mattered. It didn't matter how understanding and hardworking and dedicated our cast & crew were, it only mattered that they had to be good enough to win Best Play. Yet, as we worked more and more, the fact that it was a competition began to matter less and less. It was no longer about getting a prize or being recognized. It was about the story we had to tell, the show we were going to give, the people we were going to impact.

And on Dramafeste, on judging night itself, after two intensive weeks of training and screaming and worrying and rehearsing, I was witness to one of the most amazing plays I could ever ask for. I cannot describe how it was like up in the light box, watching each and every member of both cast and crew pull off every single line perfectly. Every single action. Every single emotion. When the lights went down on the last scene and the music played, I could feel the buzz in the air -- the kind that comes after something exceptional.

I hope that for you, Apollo, the show was as amazing and heart-stopping as we hoped it would be. We hope you enjoyed it through and through, and I cannot express how glad we are to have had you there to support us, cheering for us and yelling BLACKOUT! when the lights went down. Because at the end of it, that show was for you, a tribute to all the bullboys and bullgirls out there who make this faculty what it is -- the brightest, the loudest, and the proudest.

Thank you again to everyone who gave their support, and thank you for sharing this amazing journey with us. (:

It began raining shortly after we left the Central Plaza after our blocking time-slot was over :) Heehee the Sun is truly on our side ^^

It's MANNA again! POP is in 2 days' time! Bullboys, bullgirls, are you guys excited?!! To motivate APOLLO to do our best for fac dance on the 25th of february, fac comm has put together a video of each and every of your Civics tutor dancing the APOLLO FACULTY DANCE 2011 :D

Do you still remember that day when we were at the amphitheatre? All of you were squeezing like sardines in that small area, with the rain pouring in and we asked, "DO YOU NEED A WATER BREAK?" and "NOOO!" was what we heard from your replies. If you couldn't tell, at that moment we were really VERY VERY VERY EXTREMELY TOUCHED!
OH MY TIAN WE LOVE YOU, APOLLO! :D

POP IS ON 25TH FEBRUARY 2011! *WHOOOOOOO* and that is our last chance to get back the Fac Shield! Don't give up! WE STILL STAND A CHANCE, APOLLO! But no matter what, winning is secondary because the most important thing is to HAVE FUN AND TO TRULY ENJOY THE DANCE!!! :D :D :D

A few hours ago, I ended CCA practice in school and was waiting for my teammate to be done so we can leave school together. Then, a non-apollo J1 came up to me and said,

"Apollo sucks."

"I'm sorry we have to win so many things."

"---------------------- rocks."

I am not going to mention the name of the junior nor the faculty he/she belongs to because my whole point of posting this up here is not to create faculty rivalry but instead, highlight how proud I am to be in APOLLO.

Upon hearing the mean things the J1 said, I wasn't angry at all. Others who know me well will know that this is abnormal. I have an extremely defensive character and I will yell, scream and shout at the person insulting my faculty. But this time round, I didn't.

Because, I realized how much fun I have had ever since i stepped into APOLLO faculty and especially after I joined the faculty committee. And if I am having so much fun, I am sure all the juniors 2011 are having as much fun as i am! Yes, winning the faculty shield brings much pride and dignity. But in my equation, pride/dignity does not give you happiness and fulfillment! right APOLLO?

And i want all of you bullboys and bullgirls out there to ignore all of the sarcastic comments out there and just LIVE LOUD LIVE PROUD. Whatever mean things you hear around in school about our faculty/our performances, just ignore! Remember what I said during war games prep? Ignore ignore and ignore! Don't let them get to you! Do not make sarcastic comments about the other faculties, we are sporting people(: Congratulate the other faculty if they have completed learning their dance, give them a pat on the back when they say they're tired from dance prac, show them a bright smile when they smirk at you!

ALL OF OUR BULLBOYS AND BULLGIRLS ARE OF AWESOME CHARACTERS, RIGHT?

So all of you guys, from now on, please give your fullest attention to your dance ics whenever you go down for faculty dance practices! PLEASE TURN UP YAH. Go and enjoy dance practices, take it as a form of relaxation after 6-7 hours in school!

Hey my beloved Apollo :)

It hurts to not hear our name get called yesterday didn't it?
But it's alright.
And here's why.

I started crying not after the results were announced but after I turned back and yelled to you all, "It's okay, let's cheer for Athena okay?"
And all of you nodded and cheered like true winners for Athena.

I started crying not after we realised we didn't win anything last night.
I cried cos' after we realised we didn't win anything last night, we still cheered the loudest and the proudest. Cos' we're so damn proud of Apollo that a Fac Shield can't measure up to that level of pride.

I am crying now (so sorry for being such a girl... cos' I kind of am a girl) and the guy opposite me in Starbucks is looking slightly wary, like he's ready to take off if any wailing ensues.

I'm so sorry Apollo.
I know everyone wants to win but sometimes you've got to lose to find out what you truly have.
And this is what we have.

Pride.
For our faculty, more than any other faculty in Hwa Chong, because I've never seen any faculty so high after they've lost. Yesterday night, in the face of the campfire (which was actually all yellow by the way), you were telling the whole of Hwa Chong: Why we STILL SO PRO?
Cos' we are Apollo.

Sportsmanship.
Just like how we the faccomm taught you guys to cheer for and support your fellow classes in Apollo, you guys also brought that spirit to the Campfire last night by cheering heartily for all the faculties' performances ;) Three cheers for everyone else!

The faccomm loves you guys the most, possibly even more than your mothers. No, just kidding your mom loves you the most. But yes, we love you guys so much we kept yelling it last night :) The other faculties love their facs cos' they won something, but I can't tell you how strange it is to feel like giving all my bullboys and bullgirls a great big hug even though we didn't win anything :) The amount of love you showed the faculty last night was tremendous as well, what's with running up to the bridge and leading cheers and screaming the shit out when we lit the yellow fire.

And most importantly, we hope you guys had a heck lot of head-banging, mad clubbing, victory running, singing, dancing and cheering FUN :D Cos' we certainly did.

And just like that I've stopped crying.
Apollo, you make me smile like the Sun ♥ ☼

Apollo oi!

Hi bullboys and bullgirls,

how is everyone holding up? Yesterday is the end of orientation and i hope you guys have had as much fun as faccom would like you to have.

On thursday, 10 Feb 2010, we had war games 2011.

And i am really honoured to have had the chance to lead you guys into the war zone and be side by side along with you guys when you all gave your all for Apollo. I salute you all for your bravery, determination and enthusiasm displayed during war games. The sun was hot, the other students donned in red/blue/green were horribly rough and yet you guys managed to press on till the end of war games. I was really impressed with our line of defense.

Despite having no/little guys in the line of defense, our girls managed to stop other students from coming in or to throw their waterbombs accurately. It was a job well done! Thank you defenders!

I also want thank all the attackers who ran miles back and forth just so to attack and make the other fac shirts wet. All those who took my instructions without complain, all those who made an effort to use our tactic of dodge don't tackle, and all other bullboys/bullgirls who gave your all without qualms, thank you so much!

Perhaps my strategies were wrong; perhaps lady luck wasn't smiling on our side;

BUT IT IS OKAY,

Remember before the wargames, we agreed that we want to go out and have fun. Play by the rules and maximize the level of happiness we get! AND I THINK WE DID IT AS A FACULTY! <3 class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#FFCC00;">APOLLO spirit you have. Keep the spirit alive in you, and throughout your entire school term in hwachong, always give all out for APOLLO.

On friday, 11 Feb 2011, we had class banner preparations and class performance preparation.

Special thanks to all classes for squeezing their brains to come up with a performance. If we could, we would have sent all classes for the final performance during campfire so as to showcase all the different interpretations you guys have about APOLLO and hwachong. Thank you 11A14 for being so brave and spontaneous, giving your best performance last night. Though we didn't win best class performance, it's okay. Because, we won the crowd!!! We did it decent, we did it right. So damm proud of you guys!

Also, a round of applause for all classes for taking the time and effort to come up with a class banner and to paint them! You guys did more than the other faculties in this component because you guys had to buy your own paint (council ran out of yellow paint)! Being in APOLLO means we use yellow anywhere everywhere! There were really creative flags but sadly we could only send 1! But fret not, your flags will be kept and used in future so WATCH OUT! Thank you 11S73 for painting us such a pretty banner and to come up with the meaning behind. 4 colours give you brown and thus the brown uniforms. I bet no one in this is world would have thought of this. You guys should be very proud of yourself cause we had one of the prettiest flag last night!! Don't give up and keep going strong!

We might not have won anything during orientation, but it's okay because we know we have given out all and had a lot of fun! So guys, live loud live proud! If anyone from the other faculties dares to taunt you guys and say mean things, just IGNORE. Remember, APOLLO's being nice! Maybe next time, our bullboy might just overtake Singa as the mascot for Singapore kindness movement.

Things to look forward to are POP, Dramafeste, Combined Sports Meet, Faculty CIP, Faculty Outing 1!! So guys, remember that you guys belong to APOLLO!
